We found some sand toys for the kids to play with. Grady thought this corn on the cob shovel was pretty funny. I most say that he really enjoyed this vacation. He had such a huge smile in all of the pictures I took of him.
Ben, Tanya, and Vivian arrived on Thursday evening. We had a great evening, before it started pouring on Friday. There was rain, rain, and more rain. The kids were going a little crazy. So we sent them outside to play in the rain. They had a great time....
And got very muddy!!
By evening on Friday we were ready to be outside, but it was still raining. So we needed something for the kids to do. We came up with fruit loop necklaces! The older girls did well, G and G just ate the fruit loops.
We were also fortunate enough to go over to swim in the pool at Lake Wawasee. They enjoyed the water, however it was really cold.
The second day was better, but Grady still liked snack time the best.
We were also blessed enough to barrow a boat to go tubing. The first day the Aschliman kids tubed and we just rode. Grady and Grace liked it.
Then the second day, Kent was kind enough to take Grady out on the tube. I have to chuckle at this picture. It's before he got on the tube. See how happy he is. It reminds me how much our kids love us and trust us. What a huge responsibility.
They went out together and had a wonderful time. The only trouble they had was stopping. The front of the tube went under and Grady went head first into the water. Kent quickly jumped in and threw Grady back onto the tube. When Grady returned to the boat, he told Isabelle and Lydia that he was smiling under the water. Grady did go on again but didn't last long. When we got back to the cottage he told me that he was nervous on the boat, but he knew that God was with him. That was a huge encouragement to me.
While we were there, we had a large variety of food. The first night we had burnt pizza because we couldn't figure out the oven. Grace loved the corn on the cob. She was so funny the entire week. She's talking so much, repeating so much. It keeps me on my toes.
On Sunday we were there we also celebrated Kent's 33rd birthday. We had elf cookies instead of cake. After our nightly walk we headed into town to finish his birthday with hand dipped ice cream.
Grady and Grace slept in the laundry room. This is right before we were putting them to bed. They look real tired don't they.:) I'm not sure why they were laughing so hard. They would usually play for 15 to 20 min every night before they would settled down and go to sleep. Its always a party before they settled down for bed.
Every morning the kids would wake up before the parents were ready to function. So the kids would usually watch a video together. The kids were always totally zoned out, yet oh so cute.
Earlier this summer I asked a mom of a family of 9 if she had a nice time on vacation. Her response, "It wasn't restful, but it was enjoyable." That pretty much sums up this vacation. Brandy and I were able to walk together two mornings and every evening with at least 4 kids. However, that was able all the resting the happened. God is teaching me to be content. Content with the children I have and the ages they are. The work they require and the energy needed. This vacation reminded me of that again. So we came back and rested on Tuesday before finishing the week. Thankful for the time to enjoy with my family, and thankful to home to our home.
